frequently asked questions

how did the Salveo come about?

We make seats for many types of applications and we always knew that we had a great seat. Therefore, we had the seat ‘pressure tested’ by an outside company. The results were astounding in that, no areas of pressure build up were found to be of any consequence.

how did the CAA endorsement come about?

The pressure tests were carried out Dynamic Pressure Testing Pty Limited. They could not believe what they were seeing. Based on these results, we contacted the CAA to see if they would test the seat and give their completely independent opinion.

who designed the Salveo?

Johan Naess, a graduate of Design & Architecture from Bergen School of Industrial Design, Norway. Johan has worked his entire career in seating design.

the seats have a very strong industrial look, why?

the seats are designed to be simple and pleasing to use without of excessive adjustments to achieve the best lumbar and comfort support. Salveo is built for 24/7 use.

how much does a Salveo weigh?

the total assembled weight is 14.8kgs

what adjustments do I need to make for myself?

there are only two adjustments that you need to make to suit the chair to your body:

  1. Adjust the height:

Sit in the chair and take hold of the paddle lever located under the seat on the right-hand side. Adjust the height so that your legs are exactly 90°, making sure that your feet are perfectly flat on the floor.

  2. Adjust the tension - this controls how well your seat moves according to your weight:

Under the seat in the middle is a large black knob. Rotating the knob clockwise to increase the tension or anti-clockwise to reduce the tension to suit your weight. Generally, the lower your weight the lower the tension required. Once you have achieved the best comfort for your personal use, the chair will not need to be adjusted again.

there is another paddle lever on the left side of the chair, what is this for?

this paddle is not an adjustment; it locks and unlocks the chair. In the unlocked position, the chair will swing backwards & forwards as you move your weight. In the locked position, the chair is fixed in that position. You can lock and unlock the chair as much as you like.

some customers find that the length of the seat is too short, why is this?

if the seat is too long you get pressure build up behind the knees and under the thighs. This is the area where most deep vein thrombosis problems can start and the seat is designed to minimise this potentially fatal condition.

where are the seats made?

all of our seats are designed and made in Penrith, NSW.

what are your seats made from?

our manufacturing technology is based on Elastomeric membranes.

what are Elastomeric Membranes?

this is a very technical area, but essentially the fabric is 100% polyester co-polymers with elastic monofilaments in the ‘warp’ direction. The ‘warp’ is the long direction along the length of the woven material. In weaving, weft or woof is the yarn which is drawn under and over the parallel warp yarns to create a fabric. In North America. it is sometimes referred to as the "fill" or the "filling yarn".

are the seats strong?

extremely. The seats are rigorously tested, rated to 200kgs and crash tested to 12.7g’s.

what is the story behind the armrest design?

we get many comments about the armrest; they are designed to provide good posture for the arms and place no stress on the shoulders. Again, no pressure builds up in the elbow area, which is very important in controlling repetitive strain injury and associated problems. The armrests can accommodate most desk heights without adjustment.

are there any options for different armrests?

yes, there are several options: no armrest at all, a lift-up armrest or custom fitted commercially available armrests.

how do I keep the chair clean?

the fabric has been treated and should resist most daily grime, however if you do need to clean the fabric make sure that you do not use any harsh detergents or abrasives. A solution of warm water and household detergent is recommended.

where can I try out a Salveo chair before buying?

We have a range of locations across the mainland states of Australia where you can test out a Salveo chair. Go to our test drive page for more information.

can you do special designs for seats?

yes, we have been involved in special designs for a large number of companies looking for project designed seating.

how can we discuss a new design?

if you have a concept design we will send it to our design facility in Sydney and they will make contact with you directly with a feasibility report.
